Dawn : Crushing The Enemies

Crushing The Enemies
DAWN
21-06-2013
`Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world.
Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state.
Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three.
These words of Stanley Wolpert clearly define Mohammad Ali Jinnah. As said by Allama Iqbal that Mohammad Ali Jinnah was an imcomparable politician, his political astuteness and farsightedness was tremendous in letter and in spirit. Today, the memorable sites of the leader who changed the entire world by carving a separate Muslim state are being destroyed.
Jinnah is Father of the Nation. We have to stand united in this irreparable loss and need to make a solemn pledge that we would fight against terrorism and anti-state elements collectively. It was an attack on the Quaid and we must not leave any stone unturned in crushing our enemies.

Letter To The Editor: Is Technology Boon or Bane?

Is technology boon or bane?
DAWN
26-04-2013
EVER since the world has turned into a `global village`, the gap between people or rather the classes has been widened. Technology has brought revolutionary changes in our society. It has brought the entire world to our finger tips.
Today, a person living in the US or in any other country can easily communicate with his family members or friends. Yes, communications is much faster now and a time-saving process. But, the emotions, the feelings and the attachment linked with writing a letter has all been lost during the last couple of decades. Social sites like Facebook and tweeter are the modern ways of sharing our feelings with our near and dear ones.
These modern means of communication appear to be meaningful ways of communication but in reality have negative effects.
The privacy of a person exists nowhere on these so-called social sites. But the irony is we still praise the West for providing us such a great platform for communicating with our family and friends.
Almost every technology has a bright and dark side to it, its positive and negative repercussions. About a couple of decades back, communicating with a relative or friend was not as easy as it is today.
We used to correspondence once a twice a month to inform them about the latest happenings. We were deeply involved in the communication process. We were so excited while speaking to our parents or friends while calling them from abroad. But today, such emotions can hardly be witnessed.
Inevitably, we are technologically advanced but we have been morally and spiritually weakened. We are heading towards cultural decadence ever since technology has become a part of lives. It seems as if we have sunk into an ocean of nothingness.
With the help of the latest technology, fake IDs can easily be made. Besides, you can post malicious content to defame a relative or friend.
You can also do it out of jealousy or if you want to take revenge for something.
Determining whether technology is a boon or bane is not easy. However, I believe it has more evil effects than good.

My Letters in Dawn Newspaper

Darkness after a long struggle

SINCE the revival of democracy after the dictatorial rule, the real image of merit has been tarnished. Jobs are being given on the basis of political affiliations or seats are being divided among coalition partners in the name of consensus policy.
Did we come on the streets for this democracy? Those who are unable to write a simple letter or application have been given high cadre jobs in various government departments and development authorities.
Is this not the greatest cause of bad governance? We, the Pakistani people, are really emotional. Despite witnessing history, we go on making blunders by voting for those who forget their voters after occupying key posts and ministries.
If Pakistani people want to work for the betterment of good governance and stability of this country, they must think a thousand times before casting a vote to any political party or the day is not far when we will be having a civil war.

Waiting for MA results

SHAH Abdul Latif University conducted MA final (private) examinations for various disciplines on Feb 20. Over five months have passed but so far the result has not been announced. Needless to mention, this time the university had conducted MA final examinations after a delay of six months.
Either it is inefficiency of the university administration or it does not have enough staff to assess thousands of students. The university earns millions of rupees every year through examining the candidates.
This lackadaisical approach, coupled with a delay in assessment, prevents students from acquiring further education, apart from being a hurdle in getting jobs.
The chancellor and the vice-chancellor are requested to ask the authorities concerned to announce results as early as possible.

Plea to hold mukhtiarkar exams

THE Sindh Public Service Commission`s department of recruiting officers on the basis of merit in different departments has been allegedly politicised.

Through these columns I would like to remind senior officials of the revenue department that the mukhtiarkar examinations have not been conducted for many years though 100 seats are lying vacant.

Owing to political influence, these seats have remained vacant. Forms have been filled thrice but the date and the venue have never been announced.

Moreover, according to the SPSC officials, about 5,000 forms have been filled for this post. Therefore, senior officials of the department concerned should pay heed to this issue and fill the seats on merit.
